I have decided to retire the TiannaStarfall webiste for the time being. It has been fun showcasing my painted miniatures but I have not had the time to give it the regular updates that I would have liked. I may revive the site on a new host/server if I get some more inspiration! I shall keep this blog spot going a while longer to use for any major announcements or updates and to let you know that I am still around and interested in all things gaming :)

Finished the Myst series of PC games

Twenty years since I first played the PC game Myst I finally finished the fantastic series!

I still remember the experience of playing the first Myst, headphones on, totally immersed in another world, it was like no other game at that time and was probably the one that got me hooked on PC gaming.  This was a time of limited internet and no FAQs/cheats/walkthroughs - making the game a real challenge, writing notes as you explored and worked out the puzzles.  You felt like you were a part of the story and got a real sense of achievement when you came to the end.  Over the years I have played many computer games (mostly fantasy based RPGs and adventures) and the Myst series slotted in among them, Riven, Exile, Revelation, each time felt like coming home.  I recently played Uru (and Uru to D'ni) and felt like the story had lost it's way but followed it quickly with End Of Ages and was pleased that they managed to get the atmosphere right again and had a fitting end to this saga.

Sure there are many great PC games out there now, but if you have never experienced the worlds of Myst you really have missed out, not just on a piece of gaming history, (and amazing soundtracks including the talent of Peter Gabriel and Jack Wall), but on a journey you will never forget.

I wonder if it will be out in time to coincide with Going Postal by Mob Films - soon to be aired on Sky in the UK?

It also looks like Kul Asyrk is working on Igneous the Troll and the Senior Wrangler, good to see the Discworld collection gradually expanding.

The latest releases are shown below, the pictures are taken from the MicroArt Studios shop pages, but please remember that they are sold by them unassembled and unpainted with plain black bases. I am happy to assemble and paint any of this Discworld range of figures for only £10 per figure, this does not include the cost of the figure or postage. Games Workshop Brings Back Space Hulk

Check out the Games Workshop website for details of how to pre-order the 20th Anniversary re-release of Space Hulk. It is going to be a very limited edition (why? - probably to help keep the price high!)



A board game for two players containing "a 23-page Rulebook, a 47-page Mission book and 35 finely-detailed, plastic Citadel miniatures, including: 11 Space Marine Terminators, one Space Marine Terminator Librarian, 22 Genestealers, and one Broodlord. Also included are: 105 gaming counters, 24 corridors, 10 rooms, eight crossroads, eight T-junctions, six corner sections, four dead ends, four end pieces, 20 doors with plastic stands, one mission status display, and three plastic mission objectives, including: a dead Space Marine on throne, a Blood Angels artefact and a Cyber-Altered Task Unit. Plus a sand timer and five bone-coloured dice unique to this game."

If you are lacking a Sci-Fi board game you might want to take a look at Doom the Board Game by Fantasy Flight Games, which is currently very well priced for its massive content in comparison to this re-release. It can be played with two to four people and is always a real blast.

Much as I would love to get my hands on these miniatures to paint I do not think I will be splashing the cash this time, maybe I will be able to afford it at the 50th anniversary!

I recently finished painting a commission of eight Discworld figures along with the cobblestone bases that you can also purchase at MicroArt Studios. Pictures will be posted soon. I should point out that whilst most of the Discworld figures require 30mm bases The Librarian and Luggage, whilst being 30mm in scale, actually have 40mm bases.

Tianna Starfall Shop Created

I have now finished wrangling with the HTML and added a shop to my website.

UK customers can buy direct using the PayPal checkout system. Overseas customers can see what I currently have available and then contact me to purchase - I will send a PayPal invoice that includes the correct postage amount.

I will be adding more figures to the shop as I finish painting them. I will try to keep this Blog updated with what I am currently working on so you will have some idea what to expect. I am still taking commission work, so contact me if you have a specific miniature or colour scheme in mind, or if the item you wanted is sold out.

To start off with I have some of the Terry Pratchett's Discworld figures available (manufactured by MicroArt Studios, assembled and painted by me).

In other news, I have finished the Genestealer commission and will be adding photographs of them to gallery soon.

I am in the process of making a shop page on my website where UK customers will be able to purchase figures direct from my website using the PayPal system. Overseas customers will be able to see what I have in stock and can then contact me for a PayPal invoice containing the correct postage costs.

Initially I shall be selling some MicroArt Studios Discworld miniatures that I have completed, but there are lots of other figures in the process of being painted that I hope to add soon, for instance the Games Workshop Warhammer Chaos Knights that I have been talking about.

Spring Fever?

Well it sounded like a cool blog title, but more accurately it should be "A Cold in March". Yes the weather has improved here in the UK and it is wonderful to see the sun shining, the birds nesting, and the allergy sufferers sneezing. A shame then that I am indoors with a cold, trying to paint miniatures when sneezing is not easy, hence the lack of updates this last couple of weeks. When you have CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) colds tend to knock you off your feet for a while, but I am sure I will bounce back again soon. You cannot keep yourself in a sterile bubble, that would be no fun at all, but you do tend to see less people simply due to being unable to get out and about much and are, therefore, more likely to catch things when you do socialise; having not been exposed to many bugs to build up an immunity. A tricky Catch 22 situation.

Playing computer games on the other hand is not too difficult when sneezing, so I have made some progress with my latest one - Dungeon Siege II with its expansion Broken World. A fun fast-paced action RPG in the Diablo vein with some cool character progressions/skills and powers. First time through I am using pets rather than NPCs to bulk out my party. Currently playing a ranged person, with throwing weapons and starting to multi-class to a Blood Assassin.

Now the cold is beginning to improve I am back to painting a commission of Genestealers (Games Workshop Tyranids), in the traditional colours of Space Hulk. Still working on the Chaos Knights also.

Bog Raiders Completed

Just a quick update - I have finished the Bog Raider commission and pictures have been added to my commissions gallery.

This is what they looked like after assembly, in this picture you can clearly see how I added green stuff (modeling putty) to the joins for a better finish. I was surprised at the amount of mold lines I had to remove from these figures, but they looked great once finished.

I am currently still working on the Games Workshop Warhammer Chaos Knights, they are coming along nicely and I am painting some Genestealers by commission. More on these later.

Bog Raiders from Blood Moon Miniatures

Blood Moon Miniatures have recently released some "Bog Raiders". They look like really nice lizard men reminiscent of the Fimir's from Hero Quest (Milton Bradley board game now out of print). Here is a picture from their site:



They must have proved very popular because they are currently out of stock. I am currently working on six of these by commission.

These metal figures come in several parts - you get bodies (two types - one is a complete body with arms and legs and the other is split in two parts with legs separate from torso and arms), heads (again two types, one a complete head and the other in two parts with top of head and lower jaw being separate), hands with weapons (swords, axes and double handed axes) and tails. There are a lot of mold lines to remove and the assembly is not a simple matter; as the joins are poorly matched, requiring molding putty (i.e. green stuff or similar) to obtain a smooth finish.

Once I have completed these I will try and post some work in progress pictures, and of course the finished pieces will be in the commissions gallery.

Vampire Counts Crypt Ghouls

I have just completed these Games Workshop Warhammer miniatures. They are multi-part plastic figures that I assembled, removed mold-lines, filled in gaps/joins with modeling putty, primed, painted, based and varnished. I decided to keep away from the traditional green or purple ghouls that I have seen elsewhere and tried to create a more organic feeling with browns and yellows, and gave them fluorescent green eyes. Base detail was added to create a mud effect.



I was surprised by just how many bits went into each figure - legs, torso, right arm, left arm, head, making it a long process to separate parts from the sprues and remove their mold-lines. It was fun to mix and match them and try to get the most unique looking figures. Once assembled there was quite a lot of areas that needed filling with "green stuff" to create a more complete miniature.

I have just added individual photographs of these ghouls to a new Warhammer gallery.

These figures are NOW SOLD. I am happy to paint these on a commission basis and I can tailor the colour scheme or figure types to suit your needs. I am also able to paint other Games Workshop miniatures by commission.

Painted Discworld Figures and Other Miniatures I Have Finished

I have had a busy couple of weeks preparing, assembling, painting and varnishing a batch of the first five released Discworld miniatures. Some were for commission and some I have up for sale on Ebay at the moment (look for tstarfall). I painted them according to the colour scheme on the MicroArt Studio website (see my earlier blog) and they look like this:






I am accepting commissions for these figures and the other three that have now been released by MicroArt Studios. I can paint them according to any colour scheme you have in mind, just drop me an email. Higher quality pictures of these figures can be seen in the new Discworld gallery.

Three New Discworld Miniatures
